The Compliance and Revenue Division consists of a dedicated team of legal professionals and support staff committed to ensuring fairness, upholding public health standards, and securing the county’s revenue streams. This division represents numerous entities throughout the county, including the Harris County Appraisal Review Board, the Harris County Toll Road Authority, the Harris County Tax Office, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Harris County Constables, and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office. Our skilled attorneys and support staff employ a wide array of litigation tools to address various issues, including:
- Breach of Contract: When agreements go awry, the division acts as the civil arm for the county.
- Price Gouging and Consumer Fraud: In times of crisis or emergency, such as COVID-19 and Winter Storm Uri, the division will investigate and issue cease and desist letters against businesses or individuals in Harris County to protect consumers against price gouging during a declared disaster.
- Protection of County Property: Damage to Harris County property is not taken lightly. We work diligently to recover damages and restore what’s been lost.
- Damage Claims: We Pursue claims against those legally liable for the damage to Harris County property to obtain reimbursement for expenses and loss incurred by the county.
- Workman’s Compensation: When Harris County employees are injured on the job, we actively pursue Harris County’s subrogation rights against parties responsible for the injuries to obtain reimbursement for workers’ compensation benefits paid on behalf of employees.
- Animal Welfare: We protect the vulnerable in cases of abuse and neglect or dealing with dangerous animals. You can report animal abuse by visiting the Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce.
- Toll Collection: Ensuring that tolls are collected efficiently and fairly. The Harris County Toll Road Authority brought collections in-house in 2019, reducing collection fees and enabling the collection of more delinquent toll revenue.
