100 Days Serving Harris County

Friends and neighbors,

100 days ago, I was sworn in as your Harris County Attorney. It remains an absolute privilege to serve you and your families. No report can capture everything our team has taken on these past three months, but we hope this is a helpful snapshot of all our office is doing to serve the residents of Harris County.

We have hit the ground running protecting residents and neighborhoods, streamlining efficiencies and implementing cost savings to safeguard taxpayer dollars, defending local government, providing legal support for every County Department (working with over 80 departments and officials!) to keep Harris County moving forward, and much more.

One of the first things we did was bring the focus to families in need. We established our new Family Division, bringing together this lifesaving work under one unified umbrella to protect children, support survivors of domestic violence, and advocate for older adults and people with disabilities. We’re aggressively protecting homeowners from deed fraud, advancing environmental enforcement, defending Harris County's authority from state and federal overreach, and safeguarding the rights of every eligible voter here in Harris County. At the same time, our teams continue the essential day-to-day legal work carried out on behalf of Harris County to keep the business of our County moving.

Being out in the community, reaching residents where they are, and listening, has been a top priority. In 100 days, our Office has already participated in more than 90 community events and meetings across the County, hearing directly from families about the challenges they and their neighbors face, and talking about how we can help.

Whether we are protecting a child’s health and safety, holding accountable polluters plaguing a neighborhood or a scammer who has taken advantage of a senior, defending Harris County in court, or providing the legal guidance that supports essential County services, I am so proud to work alongside the more than 350 attorneys and staff on our team—the dedication they bring to work with them every single day is a reflection of the commitment we have to serving our County.

From modernizing the office and finding more cost savings for taxpayers to ensuring residents’ rights and interests are protected, we are just getting started. Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and the privilege of serving as your Harris County Attorney.

Onward,
Abbie Kamin
County Attorney
