As Chair of Houston's Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, Kamin worked to strengthen emergency preparedness, secured millions in new technology for first responders, and more. She led efforts to create meaningful firearm safe storage programs, domestic violence awareness campaigns, and the Police Oversight and Accountability Office within the City's Office of Inspector General.
Kamin is a champion for environmental sustainability and neighborhood quality-of-life initiatives and protection from extreme weather and natural disasters. She served as the National League of Cities Vice-Chair for the Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee and was also Chair of the city's Labor Committee, working with city departments and labor leaders to elevate the voices of Houston's working families.
Before serving on City Council, Kamin practiced law focusing on general civil, voting rights, and civil rights litigation, including voting rights and Title IX challenges. She later served as Associate Regional Director for the Anti-Defamation League's Southwest Region and worked in the Texas Legislature as a Committee Director and Clerk.
County Attorney Kamin earned her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from Tulane University. As part of Tulane's "Katrina Class," she developed a lasting commitment to local government, protection for underserved communities, and coastal resilience.
She and her husband, Matt, met in law school and live in Houston with their son and dog.
