Nearly 300 Black Attorneys in Texas Announce Support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Confirmation to Supreme Court

Houston, Texas (March 18, 2022) – Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee has sent a letter signed by nearly 300 Black attorneys licensed to practice in Texas in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States. The attorneys urge members of the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary to confirm Judge Jackson.

“The vote to put Judge Jackson on the Supreme Court will be a historic moment, centuries in the making, that many in this country will never forget,” said Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee. “State bars across this country are filled with brilliant Black women who have won important cases, served honorably as judges, and shattered glass ceilings. As she takes this historic step to become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, this bi-partisan group of lawyers stand united in strong support. We’re with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.”

The letter highlights that Judge Jackson is overwhelmingly qualified to serve on the Court and the historic nature of her confirmation. The more than 290 Black attorneys who signed on in support include prominent law firm partners, former state court judges, government attorneys, senior attorneys at large corporations, and more than a dozen attorneys who serve as elected officials in federal, state, or local government.
