HOUSTON – Amid record-breaking voter turnout in Harris County and across Texas, Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin has made history as the first woman, mother, and Jewish person elected to serve in the position.
“I’m honored to continue to serve our County, and I’m going to keep fighting for all of our families as fiercely as I fight for my own. My team and I are working hard every single day to protect our neighborhoods, safeguard our rights, and keep local government moving forward," said County Attorney Abbie Kamin. "I want every single person who lives here to know that our office is here for you and stands with you.”
Since taking office, Kamin has launched a new Family Division to strengthen protections for children, survivors of domestic violence, seniors, and people with disabilities, as well as established a new section for Appellate & Civil Rights; taken aggressive legal action to protect County residents and neighborhoods from polluters, scammers, slumlords, and fraudsters; defended the County’s authority and resources in court; and identified ways to save taxpayer dollars while modernizing the office.
"I also want to offer my congratulations to the leaders both here in Harris County and across our great state of Texas who will take office early next year. I’m looking forward to working with new colleagues at the local, state, and federal level. Together, we’ll build a strong foundation for our future, for our families, and for all of our communities," Kamin added.
County Attorney Kamin was appointed by Commissioners Court in June, and voters have now elected her to fill the remainder of an unexpired term.
