JOINT STATEMENT with Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar: Texas Supreme Court Ends Lawsuit Challenging Harris County Voter Roll
HARRIS COUNTY — The Supreme Court of Texas declined to hear Hotze v. Ramirez, bringing an end to a lawsuit seeking to force the Harris County Voter Registrar to unlawfully remove voters from the Harris County voter roll. The Court’s denial leaves in place the First Court of Appeals’ ruling in favor of Harris County Voter Registrar Ramirez.
We are grateful that the courts have confirmed what we maintained from the outset: Harris County maintains its voter roll in full compliance with Texas law. The final decision reaffirms the accuracy and integrity of the Harris County voter registration roll and the lawful conduct of our voter registration officials.
Harris County remains committed to fair, accurate and lawful voter registration for every eligible voter. We will continue to defend the County and its voters against meritless challenges that impose unnecessary costs on taxpayers and seek to undermine public confidence in our voter roll.
