Harris County Attorney Statement on North Houston Highway Improvement Project

Harris County Attorney Statement on North Houston Highway Improvement Project

Houston, Texas – Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee joined local, state, and federal leaders today for an announcement of a resolution on the dispute over the North Houston Highway Improvement Project.

The county announced the lawsuit in March of last year and was seeking a project that would consider additional feedback from the county and city as well as local residents. The resolution addresses Harris County concerns as well as objections brought by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

The below statement can be attributed to Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee:

"Today’s announcement is a result of over a year and a half of negotiations between multiple governmental entities including the city, county, TxDOT, and the federal government, as well as input from local residents and community organizations. These agreements provide real benefits to communities impacted by this multi-billion dollar highway project.

The agreements provide for elements of pedestrian and bike connectivity, funding for air monitors, noise barriers for nearby communities, and additional public input options throughout the construction period. TxDOT has also agreed to re-evaluate the design for Segments 1 and 2 to rebuild within the current footprint where it’s feasible."
