Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee’s Statement on the Killing of Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks

Houston, Texas — Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee issued the following statement on the passing of Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks, who was killed Thursday night.

“All of Texas mourns the tragic loss of Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks. Darron and I met more than 15 years ago in college as members of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was a man of great character, with a servant’s heart that knew no bounds. His commitment to uplifting his community was unwavering, and his dedication to the safety and well-being of others was evident in every aspect of his life. He embodied the best of our fraternity.

The loss of such a great man leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy of friendship, service, and kindness will continue to inspire us all. My prayers are with his family, friends, our fraternity brothers, the Dallas Police Department, and the entire Dallas community during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, my brother. You will be deeply missed.

I also join Texans from around the state in praying for the swift recovery of the additional two officers who were injured in this tragic incident.”
