Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee’s Statement on President Biden's New Immigration Policy

Houston,Texas — President Joe Biden has announced a new plan to ensure that U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children can keep their families together. This new process will help certain noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence – status that they are already eligible for – without leaving the country.

Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee issued the following statement in support of this proposal:

"President Biden's new policy protects families and reflects the best of Texas and American values. Immigrants across our state who have lived here for over a decade, who are married to American citizens, and who have started families are now part of our workforce, seeking to provide for their families the same as anyone else. Our immigration system should provide them a pathway to citizenship, not target them for deportation."
