Harris County Attorney Christian D Menefee Statement on Uvalde Shooting

Houston, Texas (May 25, 2022) – Below is a statement from Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee regarding the shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

“My heart breaks for the 19 children and 2 teachers who were killed at Robb Elementary. I am praying for the families of those who have lost loved ones, and for the recovery of those who were injured.

No parent should have to worry that their child might not come home from school, and none of our children should have to face the trauma of gun violence.

It is past time for meaningful gun reform in Texas and across this country. We need nationwide gun controls that substantially decrease the supply of guns and access to guns. A patchwork of gun laws in a small number of states is not enough. And Texas state leaders continuously relaxing gun laws and expanding access to firearms puts our teachers, our law enforcement, our students, and all Texans at even greater risk. We cannot continue to bury our children because our leaders refuse to stand up to the gun lobby. We must take action.”
