Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee Statement on Roe v Wade

Houston, Texas (May 3, 2022)— Harris County Attorney Christian D Menefee responds to a Supreme Court draft opinion indicating the Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade. In a statement, the Supreme Court confirmed the authenticity of the leaked document but noted that it does not represent a decision in the case.

“There is no doubt that overturning Roe would leave millions of women across the country without access to the full scope of health care that every person deserves. Texas has seen first-hand the devastating consequences of limiting abortions over the past 8 months.

To be clear, a final opinion has not been released, which means there is still a constitutionally-protected right to an abortion. But the draft opinion should remind every American that these rights are at risk.”
