Statement From Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin on the Passing of State Representative Garnet Coleman
HOUSTON - Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin issued the following statement on the passing of former State Representative Garnet Coleman:
“The loss of our friend and longtime public servant, Garnet Coleman, has sent a shockwave through our community. Recognizing the giant that he was doesn’t cut it when you think about the life he led and the legacy he leaves behind. He dedicated his life to public service and was a tireless advocate for social justice, healthcare for all, and the people he represented. He was unwavering and unyielding in the causes he fought for, and making sure the voices of his community were heard.
"While I had the privilege of working with Representative Coleman during my time on City Council, and before that when I was a committee director and clerk at the State Legislature, it was his friendship and guidance that mean the most—he was someone I could always count on to be in my corner—he was this for so many of us.
"We will continue to lift up his family, friends, and legislative colleagues, as we honor his extraordinary life of service.
"May his memory forever be a blessing and bring strength to all who loved him.”
