Houston, Texas – Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee issued the following statement in response to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s decision to end funding for the Solar for All program: “Ending the Solar for All program is a short-sighted and deeply harmful decision—especially for communities like ours in Harris County. This program was designed to do exactly what we should be doing more of: lowering energy costs for working families, creating good-paying jobs right here at home, and making our communities more resilient in times of more regular extreme weather events. Here in Texas, we were awarded nearly $250 million to expand solar access across the state, with Harris County securing more than $54 million as the lead of the Texas Solar for All Coalition. That funding would have helped low-income families save an estimated $1,740 annually on their utility bills—real savings that make a real difference. This is the Trump administration’s playbook—gut investments in clean energy and working families to score political points. It's wrong—and it sets us back at a time when we should be doing everything we can to build resilience, cut energy costs, add power to the grid, and support job growth in places that need it most. Our families deserve better than being used as pawns in political games.” |
