County Attorney Abbie Kamin on Paxton’s Discriminatory Lawsuit Targeting the World Professional Association for Transgender Health
HARRIS COUNTY — Reaffirming her commitment to standing with Harris County families, County Attorney Abbie Kamin issued the following statement in response to Attorney General Ken Paxton’s lawsuit filed yesterday against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH):
“Attorney General Ken Paxton is once again targeting families and healthcare professionals in a pathetic attempt to gain attention and relevancy. Texans deserve better than leaders who are more focused on stoking division than solving real challenges.
Stunts attacking health experts is a waste of taxpayer dollars and a shameful abuse of legal authority. It’s no coincidence this latest attack on LGBTQIA+ families comes in the midst of Pride Month. Here in Harris County, we celebrate the diversity that makes our community strong. We respect, protect, and stand up for the rights and dignity of every person who lives here and defer to medical professionals who are on the frontlines of the fight to protect science-based care.”
Paxton joined the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is run by Trump Administration appointees and has been embroiled in legal issues, in suing WPATH, a non-profit dedicated to furthering transgender healthcare and promoting evidence-based research. Paxton and the FTC are joined by the Attorneys General of Alaska, Iowa, and Nebraska.
